At Lupii Cafe, we take care in choosing our partners. From our coffee beans and milk, to our produce and retail items, we choose our partners based on their integrity, transparency, location and ethical integrity. We are very proud to have partnered with excellent institutions who work towards a better earth and kinder world. Take a look at our partner bios below to see why we choose to work with these companies!
East Van Roasters
A coffee shop is nothing without good coffee – and Lupii Café is proud to serve coffee beans from East Van Roasters (located on 319 Carrall Street in the Rainier Hotel). East Van Roasters uses organic, fair-trade beans and works with philanthropic suppliers to create delicious “bean-to-bar” chocolate and coffee, roasted and prepared on site. East Van Roasters is designed to provide training and employment to the women residents of the Rainier Hotel, which provides support for marginalized women in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Lupii Cafe also uses East Van Roasters chocolate ganache in our popular café mochas, and offers chocolate bar sales over the counter.
East Van Roasters has also been an excellent partner in Lupii Cafe’s zero-waste model. By using re-usable containers and recyclable material, the partnership between East Van Roasters and Lupii Cafe results in no waste going to the landfill.
Independently owned and operated, Famous Foods has been serving Vancouver with wholesome, natural food for 80 years. Famous foods prioritises healthy, organic and zero waste food as well as community involvement. We are able to source a lot of our fruit and vegetable seconds from Famous Foods – ‘seconds’ is produce that has been in the store for longer and may be very ripe or have a bruise or blemish, but is still healthy, safe and delicious.
Kin’s Farm market
Kin’s Farm Market is a locally owned specialty produce store with a location around the corner in the Champlain Mall. Kin’s supports zero waste by allowing customers to buy their ‘seconds’ fruit and vegetables – this is produce that has been in the store for longer and may be very ripe or have a bruise or blemish, but is still healthy, safe and delicious.
Having been in the grocery foods business for over 17 years, Killarney Market is one of the few independent grocery stores left in Vancouver. Located fairly close to Lupii Cafe, Killarney market is not only local but also support zero-waste by having a ‘seconds’ grocery and produce section. This is produce that has been in the store for longer and may be very ripe or have a bruise or blemish, but is still healthy, safe and delicious.
Sun Tai Sang Farm
Although Sun Tai Sang Farm is closed during the winter season, they are an excellent source for local vegetables and provided majority of our produce. They are so close to the cafe, so it was a great option to connect with a local farm. We partnered with Sun Tai Sang Farm and were able to divert food from the landfills by purchasing their material that was close to the sell-by date.
The Soap Dispensary
At Lupii Cafe we get our dish soap and oxygen bleach in bulk from the soap dispensary on Main street. The soap dispensary sells environmentally friendly, zero waste products and allows us to buy in bulk and reuse their containers when we need soap/bleach refills. We also have purchased our reusable cotton coffee filters and reusable cotton tea bags from them and long lasting dish cloths and sponges. We love visiting their store on main street, it always smells so nice and the staff and owner are so welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Anita’s Organic Mill
Anita’s Organic is committed to the highest artisan-quality Certified Organic and Kosher grains, fresh whole-grain stone-ground and all-purpose flours, ancient grains, cereals, and mixes. That means delicious nutrition without synthetic chemicals and pesticides.
