What is ethical catering?

For us, ethical catering means offering food that does not harm the planet. In order to do this we follow the following principles:

1. Zero waste – all of our meals are served in reusable plates, bowls, glasses and mugs (no paper, no plastic, nothing gets thrown away). All of our napkins are cloth (and made from upcycled material – our old curtains) and are washed, not thrown away. We also source our fruits and vegetables from ‘seconds’.  Seconds is produce that is destined for the landfill because it is no longer considered suitable for the main store shelf (mostly for cosmetic reasons) – they may have a bruise, a blemish, be non-standard size/shape, or just past their made sell-by date, but are all totally safe, healthy and delicious to eat. In this way, we address food waste – up to 40% of all food that is produced is thrown away and so much of it it perfectly good to eat. Lastly, we ensure that we work with local suppliers that minimize, reuse or avoid packaging altogether (see our partner page for more information).

2. Cruelty free – It is no longer a secret that the large scale  production and consumption of animal products across the world has led to massive scale factory farms that treat animals like products. Food animals are born and raised into a life of incarceration and suffering all because we need to consume them or their product. At lupii cafe we feel the best way to avoid this cruelty is to strive to eliminate animal products. All of our food is vegan (no meat, no milk/dairy, no eggs, no honey). Our vegan food is delicious and very nutritious!

3. Environmentally responsible – In addition to the cruelty associated with animal food production, it is very well known that animal products consume vast amount of resources, such as water and land. A vegan diet is one of the best ways to save the planet and protect its precious resources.  Around half of all human-produced greenhouse gas emissions are directly and indirectly related to livestock farming.
